A heavy-metal soloing monster and a hard-rock advocate, Paul Van Rijswijk has had a prolific underground career. Despite his predilection for power metal, he knows how to take his guitar leads in unexpected and ear-pleasing directions or when to keep a light touch in the midst of heavy throbbing decibel ‘poundage.’

Among various other side projects, Van Rijswijk has contributed tracks to ten metal compilation CDs and begun work with two new bands in 2005: Mayan and Emerald. He is part of a tight-knit community of guitarists and other metal aficionados, who regularly gather to share their love for guitars, gear, loud music, and other common interests.

Van Rijswijk connects the abrasive and rigorous confines of underground metal with an ear for the more soulful and melodic inspirations of acts like Hendrix, Deep Purple, etc. He succeeds in brightening that often dark realm with steady humor and an all-out fun attitude.
